Ashanti people have a rich cultural heritage and are well-known for their traditional arts and crafts. Gourd pots are versatile and can be used for storing and transporting various substances, including water, palm wine, or food items such as grains and seeds. They are often adorned with decorative elements and designs. Artisans may carve patterns or symbols into the surface of the gourd, or they may apply pigments, dyes, or other natural materials to create colorful and visually appealing designs. These decorative elements can have cultural or symbolic significance, reflecting the artistic traditions and beliefs of the local communities.
About the Tribe
Asante, also spelled Ashanti, people of south-central Ghana and adjacent areas of Togo and Côte d’Ivoire. Ashanti people are the largest ethnic group in Ghana. They had established a settlement in the area and were later joined by others in the 16th century. Most of the Asante live in a region centred on the city of Kumasi, which was the capital of the former independent Asante state. They speak a Twi language of the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo language family and are a subgroup of the Akan peoples.
